It’s still a tough life out in the sticks of West Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina - deep in the Appalachian Mountains. These hills and hollers are isolating. It is the poorest region of North America. This is “Trump-Country”.

Economically this was the most important coal mining location of the United States until the beginning of the last century. But as the mining companies disappeared, they left behind ravaged landscapes, unemployment and vacancy.

 

Home made music is one way the mountain people have to entertain themselves and express their feelings. Playing music together isn’t only an important bond, but also escape and tradition. These melodies and stories of love, faith and murder have been pulsing through this sparsely populated land for generations.
